between sets.
A practical guide to timing rest between strength-training sets on Apple Watch: countdowns, Start set, optional Health recording and workout summaries.

Timing rest between sets, from your wrist
A dedicated Apple Watch rest timer keeps the next countdown close while your phone stays put. RestTap remembers your duration and offers three editable favorites. It is designed for gym and strength-training sessions; you choose the rest duration and when to resume.
RestTap is awaiting App Store review. Try the interactive browser demo while the app is being prepared for release. The demo uses simulated data and sends no notifications.
A simple set-to-rest workflow
- Tap Start workout to begin a local session.
- After a set, tap Start rest or a favorite. Choose 15 seconds to 10 minutes in 15-second steps.
- Lower your wrist. The watch schedules a notification for the planned end, subject to your watch settings.
- At zero, Ready when you are keeps the rest open. Tap Start set when you actually resume exercising; the app never starts your set automatically.
- Need longer? +15s extends the same rest. An accidental start can be undone or discarded.
See notification setup and troubleshooting for permissions, Focus, sound and haptics.
What the workout summary shows
End workout opens a rest/exercise donut, then View summary shows your rest timeline, planned versus logged duration and average rests in 10-minute windows. Local history tracks trends over sessions. An optional personal rest-to-exercise target is saved with each workout.
Exercise time is estimated from time outside logged rests, including unlogged pauses. RestTap does not detect repetitions or movement. If you forgot Start set, shorten or remove that rest in the completed local summary; this does not alter Apple Health records.
Optional Apple Health heart rate
The timer and rest graphs work without Apple Health. Opting into Health recording and explicitly starting a workout creates a strength workout and displays available heart-rate readings. It can replace another active watch workout; leave recording off to use RestTap alongside Apple’s Workout app.
Smart rest can provide an advisory cue after a minimum rest and sustained readings at or below your chosen target, with a timed maximum when readings are missing. Personal targets describe your chosen plan; they do not measure muscle recovery or certify readiness. This guide does not prescribe a rest duration or heart rate.
Made for the space between sets
RestTap works offline without a RestTap account or iPhone companion app. It is planned as one upfront App Store purchase with no subscription. Workout and health data are not uploaded to the developer. The website is available in English and French; the current app interface is English.
